*Fabric, thread, rulers, etc. purchased for class will be discounted 10%.
For Lap Size (which is the size we will be making in class)
12 Fat Quarters (approx.. 18” x 22”) for the block of the quilt top. You can pick more than 12 fat
quarters if you want so you have a little more variety of colors/patterns, etc.
Border & binding - 2 yards
Backing - 1/2 yards
Finished size will be approx.. 54” x 72”
Please starch all of your fabric for the quilt top. Starching gives your fabric more “body”, decreases stretching and will make cutting and sewing more accurate. You can use a good medium to heavy spray starch on the wrong side of your fabric & iron it.
You can use any good quality thread of your choice. I suggest trying an 80 weight thread for the flattest seams. Both Quilters Select and Wonderfil (Decobob) are 80 weight polyester threads. If you do use a finer thread (80 wt), you should decrease your stitch length to 1.5 or 1.8 mm.
Sometimes it’s better to wait until you have the main part of the top finished before picking our border fabric. I often find that I change my mind about the border fabric once the rest of the top has been assembled.
