QAYG Template/Ruler work Placemat (May also be finished with free- motion) -Appleton

Quilt as you go placemat, finished with templates/rulers. I used one of the Background Fills templates from Sew Steady. However, if you don’t have templates, you can try some free motion to finish it.
If you don’t have the Background Fills templates, bring what you have and we’ll figure out a design with you.

Material List: to BRING

  • Please bring these items so you are ready to start sewing. You will get sewing instructions in class.
  • “Base” fabric – 15” x 20” Plain light or white fabric will work best. You will attach the strips on top of this fabric.
  • “Backing” fabric – 15” x 20” If you want your placemat to be reversible, use a fabric that you like.
  • Fusible fleece - 15” x 20” (don’t fuse on any fabric yet)
  • For the top you will need 11-12 fabric strips, 2” wide x width of fabric or 11-12 jelly roll strips (some of the strips need to be 26” long). Bring extra fabric if you want.
Additional items: Your sewing machine in good working order; ¼” foot and regular sewing foot; thread for piecing and topstitching; extra machine needles; rotary cutter, ruler & mat; turning tool if you have one; ruler foot if you are doing ruler work and your templates or your free-motion foot if you want to do free motion. Also, bring scissors, marking pen and a glue stick is helpful. You will be doing a lot of pressing so you can bring a pressing mat & iron if you have one.

Any materials purchased for the class will receive a class discount of 10%
