GB.VK.M1: Beginning Quilting – Table Runner or Topper

Learn the foundations of quilting while creating a beautiful project for your home. This beginner-friendly course covers everything from a brief discussion on threads and needles to "quilt math" (don’t worry, we have a cheat sheet!). Using the traditional Churn Dash block as a base, you will learn how to add sashing and borders to finish a 4-block runner or a square topper.

The class is designed to be supportive; if you cannot attend a session, we will do our best to help you finish, and a 4th class can be added on June 6th if needed to ensure your project is completed. Project samples are available to view in Green Bay to help you with layout and fabric choices. Whether you are starting from scratch or just want to refresh your skills, come join us for some quilting fun!

Materials & Requirements

Skill Level: Beginner & up.

Dates & Time:

• 3 Saturdays: May 9, 16, & 30 (Optional 4th class June 6 if needed).

• 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Please bring your lunch or a snack).

Class Fee: $60 (Pattern and cutting instructions are included).

Please Bring:

• Your sewing machine (must know how to use it), power cord, foot control, extra bobbins, manual, a ¼” foot, and your regular sewing foot.

• Regular sewing supplies: fabric marker, pins, rotary cutter, 6” x 24” ruler (and a smaller ruler if you have one), scissors, binding clips, thread, and a walking foot for quilting.

• Optional: "Tucker Trimmer" tool (we will demonstrate this in class).

Material List:

• Fabric: 3 coordinating fabrics. You will need ½ yard of 2 colors and ¾ yard of the 3rd color (includes border).

• Sashing & Binding: ½ yard.

• Backing: 1 yard.

• Batting: Scrap batting, table runner size, or a crib size pack.

• Thread: For both piecing and quilting.

• Note: If making the square table topper, please stop at the shop for specific measurement instructions.

Preparation:

• Please have your fabrics starched and pressed before class. If you are unsure about this step, please stop in and ask us!
